Easter

On Easter morning we woke to a maze of string throughout the house. This is a tradition Ryan's family had that he wanted to continue in our family. Each person has to follow the string to find their Easter basket. Charlie wasn't too thrilled with the idea, but as soon as he saw his basket he changed his tune. He changed it so much that he ended up overdosing on Easter candy and threw it all up while we were eating breakfast. The rest of the day was very nice, with the traditional Conference breakfast of orange rolls and lil smokies, watching Conference, and dinner at Ryan's parents'.

more hiking

We liked our other hike so much we went hiking again the day after Easter for FHE. This time we chose the waterfall hike at Placerita. The boys had been before during Fathers and Sons, but when they went there wasn't much water. It had rained all night and half of Monday so we thought there might be more water this time.

Another fun, beautiful hike. We had to hustle because it was almost sunset, and we had to cross the stream many times, but luckily no one got wet.
That last picture is blurry, but it's proof that we made it to the waterfall.

new vocabulary

This morning while getting ready for school I had this conversation with Alex:

Alex: What's a bimbo?

Me: (trying to think fast) Someone who . . .

Alex: Someone who doesn't dress very modest?

Me: Yup. Where did you hear that word?

Alex: Calvin and Hobbes.

J Joe jeans and his jelly beans

I couldn't get this song out of my head in the weeks leading up to Easter, simply because it references jelly beans.

Charlie's birthday

The cake: I asked him what he wanted and he said a dirt cake.

The chapstick: For some reason lately he's developed a little fetish with chapstick and has to carry some around at all times. Probably trying to be like Papa.

The lawnmower: Now he'll go in the backyard and mow the lawn about five times a day.

I'll just sit up . . . not sleepy

Wes's six month stats put him at 19 1/2 lbs, which is the 75th weight percentile (less than I thought!). He's also at the 75th height percentile which is also surprising since our boys aren't known for their length.
I couldn't get a shot of him smiling with the better lighting. And I included the third shot just because he's so rolly polly.

First Day of Spring

We celebrated the first day of spring by going on a hike. I can't believe we've lived in this city for seven years and this was my first time at Towsley Canyon. I was missing out. It was so pretty I told Ryan I didn't even feel like I was in Santa Clarita. A few trees can make a big difference.
We hiked as far as the "tar pit" and came back down.
Later that day we watched our Stake Easter Pageant (Ryan had a small part) so it was a nice welcome to Spring and the Easter Season.
